Philosophy of Care
The word “Logos,” comes from the Greek word for meaning. My solo private psychiatric practice is focused on understanding symptoms within the context of personal meaning, relationships and upbringing. My training as a psychiatrist has taught me to treat symptoms through evidence-based intervention and the neuroscience behind how we can improve symptoms through medication and talk therapy. I approach each person knowing that they are more than the sum of their neurobiology and create a space that honors what makes life meaningful for each individual.
Over the years, I’ve trained in a wide range of psychopharmacologic and psychotherapy approaches—from psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral to dialectical behavioral and meaning-centered therapies. I don’t rely on a single lens or rigid framework. Instead, I draw from my medical background, evidence-based knowledge, and psychotherapy training, always guided by cultural humility and curiosity.
Expertise
I bring a depth of experience in clinical care, psychiatric education, and mentorship. As Medical Director of Primary Care Behavioral Health at Hennepin Healthcare, I helped shape integrated models that honor the complexity of mind-body care—bridging psychiatry and primary care to meet patients where they are.
As Program Director of the Hennepin Healthcare/Regions Psychiatry Residency, I guided emerging psychiatrists with a philosophy rooted in presence, clarity, and relational depth—emphasizing clinical excellence alongside empathy and meaning. I continue to teach the next generation of psychiatrists as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Minnesota, inviting learners to engage psychiatry as a human encounter.
Most mental health conditions begin in late adolescence or early adulthood. As a psychiatrist on a multidisciplinary First Episode Psychosis team at Hennepin Healthcare, I have specialized training in cutting edge, evidence based first episode care. While I don’t offer first episode psychosis treatment in this solo practice, that experience continues to shape my approach. I value the role of family and natural supports in the care of young adults. I welcome collaboration with families when it aligns with the individual’s preferences and privacy.
I have been honored across institutions for my commitment to healing and person-centered care. I received multiple teaching awards through the Hennepin Regions Psychiatry Residency Program. At the national level, I work on a team that received recognition from America’s Essential Hospitals with the Gage Award for Quality Improvement. At the state level, the Minnesota Hospital Association recognized me with its Innovation in Patient Care Award. At Hennepin Healthcare, I was awarded the Patti Pin for compassionate care and the medical staff’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award for helping develop a spiritual care model integrated within psychiatric care.
Earlier in my career, I received the Clinical Excellence Award from the University of Washington Psychiatry Residency for my role in integrating psychiatric care with palliative, pain, and pastoral care at the end of life. I also served as Chief Resident at the University of Washington’s Harborview Medical Center.
About Me
Being a parent changes you—I know from experience. It shifts how you see others, how you hold their struggles, and how you understand the “full catastrophe” of being human. Parenting today stretches us in ways that are hard to name but deeply felt.
I love working with parents—whether you’re raising young kids or navigating adult children. Early patterns and emotional tasks don’t disappear; they evolve and echo across a lifetime. I also have deep experience treating young adults navigating college transitions and early career.
As a Minnesota transplant who’s lived and trained on the West Coast and the East Coast, I know what it’s like to start fresh. Whether you’re new to the Twin Cities, the country, or a new role in life, adjustment can stir up more than expected.
If you’re feeling stretched or unsure, I’m here to offer understanding—and to help you grow into change that feels true to you.
In my work as a physician and residency program director, I’ve seen how hard it can be for doctors to reach out for help—especially when you’re used to being the one others rely on. I also know how much stress and trauma we absorb in the act of caring for others.
Seeking support as a physician—or as any professional under board oversight—can feel high stakes. That’s why I want you to know that your confidentiality, your well-being, and your central role in every care decision are my highest priorities.
